Bad Tropes

one of Berlin’s most interesting emerging voices

INFO

Bad Tropes

Following a solo layering of assorted instruments and multiple strands of silky-soft vocals―all dipped delicately in lush reverb to comprise the New Campaigns EP―singer-songwriter, Luke Troynar, has since teamed up with producer/multi-instrumentalist, Jonny Zoum, positioning Bad Tropes en route to increasingly promising horizons. Together, the two Melbournian-cum-Berliners have built a dynamic live act and begun to hone the brooding, cinematic quality layered within the gentle and restrained, yet powerful, songs that make up the unique Bad Tropes aesthetic. The result is a provocative and darkly melodic resonance ― an atmospheric sound that climbs patiently to its climaxes, revealing glimmers of experimental genres together with all the sweet sensibilities and dramatic grandeur of carefully crafted pop music, all the while never overriding the strong lyrical focus at the core of each song. As Kevin Junk from Wolf Auf Tausend Peataus neatly sums up: “[Bad Tropes create] an enchanting paradox where nothing is as sweet as it sounds… one of Berlin’s most interesting emerging voices”.
